Summary:

The Industrial Engineer will develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Responsibilities include development of manufacturing work cells for mechatronic components and systems, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, and assembly and test processes. The Engineer will recommend, justify, and implement improvements to production processes. In addition, the Engineer will coordinate manufacturing launches for new or revised products.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Carries out manufacturing process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training;
2. Observes and analyzes manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency;
3. Prepares and presents plans for process changes. Coordinates deployment including training of team members;
4. Develops and implements optimized methods of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and training;
5. Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including workflow, assembly methods, production equipment, work cell design, and tooling;
6. Regularly reviews production information to understand methods and activities in manufacturing and services, including production schedules, process flows and engineering specifications;
7. Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment. Optimizes facility layout for efficient operation and safety;
8. Participates in product launch teams for new/revised products including process design, capacity planning, training team members and evaluating results;
9. Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods;
10. Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills;
2. Familiar with office automation tools: MS Office, ERP;
3. Experience with CAD/CAM and knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing);
4. Strong desire for organization, process optimization, and efficiency;
5. Self-starter with ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and properly prioritize activities;
6. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment to solve complex problems;
7. Proven ability to design and understand precision technical plans, engineering drawings and models;
8. Proven math skills and strong mechanical aptitude;
Required Education & Experience
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required from an accredited college or university. Industrial & Operations engineering, Manufacturing engineering, or Mechanical engineering with Manufacturing emphasis degrees preferred;
2. Prior work experience, internship, or research in industrial engineering or operations in a precision manufacturing environment;
3. Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, costs, quality control, raw materials and other methods for maximizing the efficient manufacture and distribution of precision mechanical and mechatronic products;
4. Working knowledge of CNC manufacturing systems (lathes, milling machines, grinders, EDM, etc.) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing);
5. Experience with and/or training in Lean and Six Sigma methodology
6. Experience with ERP systems as related to methods of manufacturing, process workflows, inventory management, etc.;
7. One or more years mechanical engineering experience including producing 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings with precision tolerances, preferably using SolidWorks;
8. Previous linear motion or robotics experience a plus.
